Ralph’s Wines was founded in 2008 by Ralph Smith.

With a degree in marketing and after a spell working with an acclaimed wine merchant, Ralph explored the vineyards of the Loire Valley in France and Ribera del Duero in Northern Spain.

In “Ribera Del Duero” Ralph visited Bodegas Vizar, where he was shown the state of the art Bodegas and the careful process of making their quality wines. After tasting some excellent red wines, Ralph knew he had discovered a treasure not found in the UK. 

Ralph then met the owner of another local vineyard, Bodegas Hijos de Antonio Polo in Peñafiel. This small family run bodega is respected locally for their high quality wine. It was during a fantastic lunch in a restaurant converted from an old water mill in Peñafiel, that Ralph had another wine tasting and from these meetings he had found the red wines for his portfolio. 

In the following months Ralph launched his own business “Ralph’s Wines Ltd” and sought some good White and Rosé wines to round off his portfolio. To do this Ralph explored the Loire Valley in France and discovered Domaine Pierre Chauvin – Anjou and Domaine De La Tuffiere – Anjou.

Back in UK, Ralph organised wine tasting events with the excellent samples he had brought back and the very positive response to these tastings encouraged Ralph to import the first shipment in September 2008.

The philosophy behind Ralph’s Wines is to provide you with a personal choice of carefully selected, high quality wines from family orientated vineyards. These wines provide rewarding flavours that encourage you to savour the taste and enjoy the product whatever the occasion.
